The struggle is real. Many homeowners make every effort to keep their lawn weed free every season. Weeds are persistent and require homeowners to be proactive in prevention. The best time to take action is in early spring. During this time frame lawn weeds are still germinating and not yet present in lawns. It is easier to prevent lawn weeds than to try and deal with them after they have appeared. In addition to Brookside’s regular treatment applications, there are actions that you can take to help keep your lawn weed free.
Keeping Your Lawn Weed Free:
- Mow Your Lawn High – This keeps your soil shaded. Set your lawn mower blade at 3″ or higher.
- Water Deep – Water enough to keep your grass healthy and growing, especially during the dry summer months. You should water 1″ to 1-1/2″ per week. Put your watering on a schedule. Early morning watering is best. Try to avoid watering in the evenings.
- Aerate – Annual lawn aeration encourages root growth for a thick green lawn. Aeration can be done in the spring or in the fall. Most lawns require aerating only 1x per year. Lawns that have a thatch problem may require aeration in the spring and fall.
- Reseed & Overseed – Fill in any bare areas in your lawn and overseed every fall. Over seeding is a great way to help fill in any thin areas and is also the best way to incorporate improved turf types into your lawn. A thick healthy lawn is your best defense in weed prevention.
Combining these maintenance techniques with Brokside’s specialized lawn treatments will provide you with a thick, green, and healthy lawn. Spring is around the corner. Call Brookside Lawn Service today at 888.701.LAWN to get on schedule and save $25 on your custom lawn care service plan.
